Subject: Cash for Clunkers This will help you feel better….

A vehicle at 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of gasoline. A vehicle at 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year.

So, the average “clunker” transaction reduced US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year. According to the governments web site, http://www.cars.gov, they claim 700,000 vehicles were turned in which equates to 224 million gallons of gas per year in “savings”.

According to the Dept of Energy, one barrel of oil makes 19.5 gallons of gas. That means 11,487,179 barrels of oil are needed to make 224 million gallons of gas. The USA uses 20,680,000 barrels daily according to NationMaster.com. That is just over 1/2 of ONE DAY’s US consumption. At $75/bbl, 11,487,179 million barrels of oil costs about $861+ million dollars.

So, you and I (via our fearless leader and his cohort’s) spent $2,877,000,000 (thats BILLION) to save $861+ million. And THAT was a good deal how??? But I’m SURE they will do a great job with health care!!! Of course they will.
